Getaways: Indian Head Point

When most people think of New York, they think of skyscrapers, thick traffic, or hot dog stands. However, I’ve known a few anglers who, when they think of New York, they think of an amazing Getaway known as Indian Head Point. Keep reading to learn more about this hidden gem of the Northeast.

Indian Head Point is located on Black Lake in Hammond, New York, and is nestled deep in the 1000 Lake region of the state, near the St. Lawrence River. Each of the resort’s lakefront cabins offer great views of the lake, and also include comfortable picnic tables and lawn chairs for guests to relax with. There is also plenty of room between cabins, which allows for a lot of privacy. While you won’t find all the bells and whistles that may accompany a more modern resort, the furnished cabins are outfitted with utensils for cooking, coffee maker, and sofa-bed. The cabins are pet-friendly, as well, which is great for families travelling with a dog. There are laundry facilities on site, as well as a bait shop where you can purchase tackle, live bait, or a fishing license.

Anglers will find Black Lake to be a great place to catch fish, and the resort rents pontoons and fishing boats for a flat rate if you don’t have one of your own. The lake itself is well-known for producing trophy bass, pike, muskie, channel catfish, walleye, and perch. Each cabin has its own dock for boats and there is also a facility on site where you can clean your fish at the end of the day.

Aside from fishing, the resort also has its own miniature golf course, game room, basketball court, horseshoe pits, and public beach. Nearby, you’ll also find hiking trails at Adirondack State Park, batting cages, kayak rentals, and drive-in movie theater. If you have your passports, you can also head over to Canada and enjoy all that Ottawa has to offer, including museums and downtown life.

Designed as a simple, yet accommodating way to get away from work or school for a bit, Indian Head Point is a great destination for any angler. Black Lake is known for its amazing fishing and the surrounding area is an outdoorsman’s dream. If you’re searching for a good old-fashioned place to get some fishing in this season, then Indian Head Point might be the Getaway you’ve been waiting for.
