This Raptor has a long seat for maximum rider comfort and movement, and is ergonomically designed. For a sporting accent and improved visibility, it features multi-reflector 30-watt Krypton front headlights and LED taillights. Raptor helps give riders more time on the road with fewer stops for fueling up thanks to its large-capacity 2.9 gallon fuel tank and the Yamaha Fuel Injection system. The smooth shape of the thumb throttle lever is designed to provide a feel riders can appreciate with less fatigue after a day of adventure.

That Yamaha Fuel Injection (YFI) translates to consistently excellent engine performance over a wide variety of conditions, elevations and temperatures. And the pushbutton start – in any gear – is an added convenience. The 686cc engine is light but strong, with a fast-revving power plant that can rev to 9000 rpm and stay smooth because of the dual counterbalances. It has a race-bred five speed transmission with reverse, so there’s a good choice of gears for any riding situation. The heavy-duty clutch features very sturdy baskets and plates specifically designed to harness the power. For added convenience, the oil filter is easy to reach and Raptor has an air filter that’s simple to replace without the need for tools.

Compression has been increased on this model, from 9.2:1 to 10.0:1 to produce more power and increased engine performance, and new suspension settings were incorporated to reduce bottoming and make the ride more comfortable.

The Raptor structure is extremely strong; the state-of-the-art chassis combines a steel front section with an aluminum rear section and a detachable sub-frame. It’s fast, but with reliable and quick stopping power from twin piston rear brake calipers. The twin aluminum piston front disc brakes have drilled discs to provide suspension compliance. It also features a handlebar-mounted flip type parking brake lever. Riders get good boot traction from the 45mm serrated foot pegs.
