Actress Vanessa Hudgens Fined for Defacing Sedona Rock Face

From another in the series of tourists defacing national monuments, this time it’s a movie star, though the term star is being used loosely.

Actress Vanessa Hudgens, best known for her role as Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical was fined $1,000 for carving her and her boyfriend’s names into a rock face, according to the Associated Press.

Hudgens was exploring Sedona with her boyfriend Austin when the two decided to etch their names into a red rock within Coconino National Forest. Hudgens posted the trite proclamation of love on her Instagram account where one or more of her followers apparently reported it to park officials.

Because rangers were able to track down the offender and because the rock was located within a National Forest, the actress was fined $1,000 for the misdeed. Funds will go toward removing the engraving by scrubbing the rock face.

“She was caught in the act because she publicized it and she’s famous,” park spokesman Brady Smith told NBC News. “I’m sure there are others who are not famous and publicized it and we’ve never known.”

The photograph was deleted from Hudgen’s Instagram page and the actress has not made an official statement regarding the incident. Hudgens reportedly admitted to defacing the rock and led authorities to the location.
