Moose Gives Birth in Lowe’s Parking Lot in Alaska

An afternoon trip to Lowe’s in Anchorage, Alaska turned into more than a casual run for some household items. Instead, many shoppers were treated to a wildlife spectacle on Tuesday as a moose gave birth in the parking lot.

Shoppers paused to watch with many snapping photos of the event. It’s not every day that an animal gives birth in a public place like that.

Anchorage is known for its moose population that have found a way to live symbiotically within neighborhoods even close to the city center. But even for longtime Anchorage residents, this was something spectacular.

“I’ve been here 50 years, it’s just unbelievable to see it in a parking lot,” another onlooker told KTVA.

People gave it plenty of space and let her do her business. The birth reportedly took more than nine hours as the mother went through contractions, delivered the calf and then cleaned it up. They even got to see the young way take its first steps.

“I guess you can’t really choose the moment when it’s going to happen,” one witness told KTVA.
