As hunters, the moment after you down a big animal is one of the most dangerous. Every predator within range will smell the kill and likely make it’s way over to check it out.
A father and son bow hunting in Montana had a rude awakening recently after they killed a cow elk and began following the blood trail. They quickly realized they weren’t the only ones as a grizzly bear started paralleling them.
The father and son retreated and called 911 reporting that the bear was huffing and growling when they decided to let him have it.
A sheriff spokesman who spoke with the Associated Press said they were smart to let the elk go and that a game warden gave them permission to abandon the kill.
