Gear Up: Therm-a-Rest EvoLite Sleeping Pad

evoliteSleeping pads are an integral piece of gear for avid overnight campers and backpackers. In the old days, it was either sleep on the ground or carry a lot more padding than is comfortable. Luckily, over the years, sleeping pads have been created and refined to make them easy to carry, comfortable, and lightweight. Recently, Therm-a-Rest released their newest sleeping pad, the EvoLite, and today we’ll take a closer look at it, for those of you in the market for one this season.

A few of the EvoLite’s impressive features include its Ultralight AirFrame construction, which creates a two-inch layer of comfort, and alternating foam and air channels that reduce both its weight and pack size, while still increasing loft. The foam in the EvoLite’s construction is Atmos foam, which is lightweight, compressible, and offers high loft. Finally, the EvoLite’s self-inflating feature means you need only a few breaths to fill the mattress to its best firmness.

The EvoLite is available in three different sizes to accommodate different body heights. The small model measures in at 47 inches and weighs 11 ½ ounces, the regular is 72 inches long and weighs just over a pound, and the large is 77 inches long and weighs in at just under a pound and a half. Each model comes with its own stuff sack and packs down to about the size of a football. Finally, the small, regular, and large pads cost $100, $120, and $140, respectively.

A quality sleeping pad can be a great asset on the trail, and Therm-a-Rest’s EvoLite is a quality option. It’s lightweight, affordable, and fits easily into your pack for camping and backpacking. Keep the features listed above in mind if you’re in the market for a sleeping pad this season!
