Have you been looking for the perfect excuse to see that National Park you’ve been putting off visiting all those years? Well it’s never too late to hop in the station wagon because it’s National Park Week beginning Saturday, April 18 though April 26.

The week of celebrating our country’s national parks is also a great opportunity to experience special events and programs. Here are a few of the offerings:

Opening Weekend is Free

The opening two days of National Park Week (April 18 and 19) offer free admission at every national park in the country. You’ll still have to pay for other activities within the park, though, such as tours and camping.

Concord Parade – Minute Man National Historical Park

On April 20, you can visit Minute Man National Historic Park for a morning of parades, reenactments, demonstrations, and celebrations marking the 239th anniversary of the start of the American Revolutionary War.

Jetty Walk – Biscayne National Park

Each morning this week, from 10 am to 11 am, visitors of Biscayne National Park can sign up for a jetty walk along the shore of Biscayne Bay, during which they can view wildlife and learn interesting facts about the park and the region.

Clamming, 101 – Canaveral National Seashore

On Monday, April 20, you can visit Canaveral National Seashore for an introduction to clamming, including the techniques and delicious recipes involving this seaside activity.

Art Show – Scott’s Bluff National Monument

All this week and until May 10, visitors to Scott’s Bluff National Monument can stop by the visitors center to view pieces created by members of the area’s North Platte Valley Art Guild, and vote on their favorites.

Science Fest – Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area

From 10 am to 4 pm on April 25, visitors to Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area outside of Los Angeles can learn how to track wildlife, familiarize themselves with the local ecosystems, see live animal displays, and more.
