Pro Surfer Attacked by Shark on Live TV

In one of the craziest scenes ever to play out on live television, pro surfer Mick Fanning was attacked by a shark during the J-Bay Open surf competition in South Africa on Sunday.

In an interview afterward with FOX Sports, he told a reporter he was unharmed. He said he was just about to start paddling when he felt something get stuck in his leash.

“It just kept coming at my board and I was just like kicking and screaming, wow,” Fanning said. “I just saw fins, I didn’t see any teeth. I was waiting for the teeth to come at me.” he said adding that he managed to punch the shark in the back.

The competition, part of the World Series Surfing League, was canceled after the incident. The 34-year-old Fanning is a three-time surfing champion.
