Wingsuit Pilot Crashes and Survives

In what should have been a life ending accident, a wingsuit pilot in Chamonix, France survived a horrifying crash into the tree line.

Experienced BASE jumper Eric Dossantos lost his speed and altitude on a dangerous near-proximity jump and careened into the upper branches at 90 miles per high. Miraculously he came away with some broken bones, a head injury and some lacerations.

The whole incident was caught on video by a helmet camera providing one of the craziest videos you’re going to see in a while. A GoFundMe page has been set up to pay for Dossantos’ medical bills including a hyperbaric chamber to treat his head injury.

“Unfortunately that’s rarely ever covered by insurance and it’s expensive. Not treating a head trauma can lead to issues later in life,” reads the introduction on the page. “Even thou Eric has already gotten the biggest gift a person can get (he’s still alive). He still could use a little bit more. Let’s all get together and help him get the much needed HBOT treatment.”

Eric himself acknowledges the near death experience in a post on his Facebook page.

“Sorry to all that I haven’t contacted but there’s a lot of shit going on right now, he wrote. “I should have died on a wingsuit crash in France but I didn’t so working on my healing from that.”

BASE jumping is an extremely dangerous sport, which this tight-knit community is well aware. In August 17 athletes lost their lives in various BASE jumping accidents across the globe, according to a friend of Dossantos in an interview with Grind TV.

“People in the community die like flies … I lost seven friends last year alone,” friend Mathias Ringstrom said.
