GoPro Unveils New Karma Drone and Hero 5

The drone market has exploded in America over the past few years and many of them rely on GoPro cameras to capture video. For the first time, GoPro has created its own aerial drone.

The result is Karma, what the company is calling an “end-to-end life capture solution.” In other words, this thing does it all. The company unveiled the much-anticipated system at an event earlier this week to lots of industry fanfare.

The Karma includes a drone, controller, hand-held grip stabilizer and helmet mount truly making it able to capture world class videos and photos from any angle.

The Karma drone comes with smart flying technology that makes for Hollywood-caliber footage at the touch of a button. It has a feature that allows a partner to control the camera while you do the flying.

With the drone designed to be lightweight and compact, it’s easy to take along on any adventure. Even when you’re not using it, the device fits easily fits into a small backpack. The whole package, not including a camera, will sell for $800. You can sign up for the waiting list here.

In addition to the drone, the Karma comes with a unique handheld grip stick that allows you to disconnect the camera’s stabilizer on the drone and use it in a handheld setup, With this device you have the ability to capture excellent video quality with great range of motion.

You still have to buy the camera though as the device is compatible with all GoPro models including the latest Hero 5. Lastly, the whole thing also comes with a mount for the stabilizer on a helmet.

There have been a lot of advancements in action camera technology and aerial drones, but GoPro’s Karma and the new Hero5 is believed to set the bar even higher when it hits the market on Oct 23.

“With these new products, we’re delivering on our promise to make it easy to capture and share engaging stories,” said CEO Nicholas Woodman in a press release. “HERO5’s ability to auto-upload photos and videos to a GoPro Plus account dramatically simplifies mobile, on-the-go editing, sharing and enjoyment. This is a game-changing experience that we will continue to build upon.”
